In 2010, I had the great pleasure of participating in my first mounted archery competition in Redmond, Oregon. I was so excited and terrified at the same time. It was a prestigious event with experienced competitors from around the world participating. There I was, nervous and terribly unprepared, about to experience a turning point in my life.
I was immediately struck by the comradery of the shooters. I was particularly moved by the support offered by the female competitors. The genuine kindness crossed all religious and cultural barriers. The empowerment I felt during that competition has fueled everything I've done for the sport of mounted archery since. Since the start, Amazon Archers has been about friendship and courage. There is no mountain too high when you have the strength of an Amazon!
I learned mounted archery from Katie Stearns in 2008. I was inspired by her integrity, skill as a horse woman and her courage. It is because of Katie that I understand the meaning of being Amazon. I am grateful for all I have learned from this incredible sport and from my Amazon sisters.
